I'm John ...

And I've been a storyteller all my life.

In that time, I've come to realize that my writing can best be defined by its exploration of morality, life, and change. I place my characters in stories centered around topics like redemption -- while always remembering to keep the key theme of hope alive.

From TV shows and films to books and video games, I learn all there is to learn from the stories I take in; I believe storytelling is meant to support, educate, & elevate as much as it entertains, and I try to reflect that in everything I write.

I was selected for Ryan Reynolds' Group Effort Initiative and am currently a member! I am ready for early-career work as a Writing/Production Assistant!

Inspirations

Most of what I write is Realistic Fiction, so I find myself inspired by History altogether. If it's from a time period I find interesting, I'll probably draw from it; I like to write Westerns, for example, because I consider the American Old West to be the most unique point in US history.

I always think about the psychology of a character when deciding how they'll react to things, so I'd say the Mind is something I take a lot of inspiration from as well. Since most of my stories have to do with ethics and emotions, my own meditations on the human mind inform my writing a lot.

Ultimately, though, I take the majority of my inspiration from a single franchise: Star Wars.

Quite the contrast, I know, but I genuinely believe it to be the most varied franchise in the world -- in every form of media, every genre, and every age, Star Wars literally has something for everyone. I adore Star Wars' commitment to telling every type of story it can, because it allows me to examine its storytelling from tons of different angles. I learn from it just as much as I love it.
